The Neighborhood City Center for Young
Children (City Center) is Neighborhood for
Learning's newest site serving children ages six weeks to enrollment in kindergarten. The City Center is a joint project of Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning, the Conejo Valley Unified School District, and the City of Thousand Oaks. Its purpose is to provide the community with quality childcare and education services for the 0-5 population. Services also include family support and education. Focusing on literacy development, health and nutrition and peaceful families, the goal of Neighborhood for Learning is family strengthening and school readiness.

Basic services at the City Center
In addition to full day and part time preschool for children ages 2 1/2 to enrollment in Kindergarten (ratio 1:8), we offer full day infant childcare (ratio 1:3) for ages six weeks to 18 months, half and full day toddler childcare (ratio 1: 6) for ages 18 months to 30 months.

Philosophy
The staff and administration at Neighborhood City Center know that young children thrive in safe, nurturing, predictable and respectful environments that promote trust. These elements are foundational and at the core of our center's philosophy; a philosophy that fosters a child-centered curriculum and is reflected throughout our educational program which allows children to succeed in school and in life.

Goals
CV NfL's goal is to partner with families to provide a safe and loving quality educational environment for their children which provides varied experiences that will allow each child to:
- build strong relationship skills,
- develop and practice problem solving and conflict resolution,
- develop an interest and joy in learning,
- develop security and good self-image,
- develop self-control and responsibility,
- enhance physical development,
- enjoy strong parent involvement and education,
- transition successfully to the school environment.

Hours of Operation
The City Center is open Monday thru Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Full Day hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Food and Snack
We are nut-free childcare center. We maintain a "no sugar/health food" policy.  Two daily nutritious snacks from a variety of food groups are provided. Drinks include water and nonfat milk or low-fat (1%) milk for children over the age of two years. If your child is lactose intolerant, we will offer a milk substitute.  All snacks are free of refined sugars low-fat, and low sodium. Children are offered different types of new foods, new tastes, new textures and cultural foods. If staying for lunch, parents are responsible to provide lunch for their children on a daily basis and in accordance with the no sugar/healthy food policy.  Milk or water will be provided for lunch.  Juices or sugary drinks are not allowed in school or any NfL sanctioned activity.

Parent Involvement
We respect that the parent is the child's first teacher and that the staff at the Center is in partnership with the parent(s) in caring for and educating their child.  We recognize that the success of a child in school later on is correlated to parents' involvement in their child's education from early on and as such strongly recommend. Please know that you are welcome at the Center at any time and are requested to volunteer a minimum of 1.5 hours per month.

Registration
Admission to the Neighborhood City Center shall be granted without discrimination with regard to religion, race, color or socio-economic status.  The Neighborhood Center will make every attempt to meet the special needs of a child as long as the goals of the program and the needs of the other students are not compromised.

After initial parent tour and interview, wherin the child's development/needs are discussed, and enrollment process is complete, the child will be placed in a group according to age and particular needs of the child in accordance with Title 22.

Please visit the Registration page to learn more about the registration process for the Neighborhood City Center.
